In the recent Star Trek Las Vegas Convention, Karl Urban threw a bomb of excitement on the fans when he said that he could portray the hit character, Judge Dredd, once again.

As per Urban, he is in discussion with the makers of the television series Judge Dredd: Mega City One regarding reprising the role. He mentioned that if the character has a substantial role and function in the show, then he would love to be a part of it.

This statement from Urban can be seen as quite promising, as the producer of the show, Brian Jenkins, had already confirmed that he would be interested if Urban decided to return to that role.

Jenkins mentioned, “We have had many conversations prior to this, about all sorts of things.” He went on to specify that Urban is a busy actor and there would be a problem of schedule. Still, if he decided to show up, Jenkins would be happy to have him.

The iconic character of Judge Dredd was created in 1977 by John Wagner and Carlos Ezquerra. Even after 40 years, it remains a part of the 2000 AD British comic magazine.

Karl Urban donned the helmet of the iconic judge in the 2012 movie Dredd, which received positive reviews, even though it tanked at the box office. However, it has since earned a cult following of fans, who were waiting for a good portrayal of the character ever since the 1995 debacle starring Sylvester Stallone. The movie takes place in Mega City One, a violent city much akin to Gotham. Instead of Batman, the law is in the hand of officers called ‘”judges,” who play the judge, jury, and executioner. The most fearsome of the lot, Dredd, is partnered with a psychic rookie Cassandra. The duo then confronts a powerful drug lord named Ma-Ma, who is ready to cross any limits for protecting her empire.

Pete Travis directed the movie. It starred Olivia Thirlby, Wood Harris, and Lena Headey, apart from Karl Urban as the titular character.
