Justice League May Open Way Below Wonder Woman

Justice League is tracking for an opening under $100 million, putting it way behind Wonder Woman and making it one of the lowest opening from DCU. Warner Bros. tried to get a shared universe for many years, and it is now in rival with what Marvel Studios is doing.

This summer, the DC Universe got the jolt it needed when Wonder Woman was a huge success and had way more impressive runs at the box office. With Justice League following its footsteps and putting Gal Gadot’s hero in front it never looked like Justice League will have trouble making money.

The box office projections had this movie making a $150 million opening weekend, but they fell to $120M, and then to $110M. Justice League had looked to be on track for the latter with a debut on Thursday night previews, and things have changed a lot. THR is reporting Justice League is on track for an opening weekend near $95M. If the projections hold, Justice League will have the lowest opening of any DC movie.

It is a bit too early, and Justice League may surpass the expectations the next two days, so it is too soon to pronounce Justice League‘s opening as a disappointment. It will be a disappointment if the projections are met.

Not only will its low opening hurt Justice League‘s box office, but it will also have huge ramifications on the future of the universe. Reports have popped up that Warner Bros. is waiting to see how Justice League performed before it moves forward on other projects like Flashpoint, but the results may see them change things dramatically.

Aquaman has wrapped up the filming, but the release is a year away, so they have time to make changes, and Shazam! is set to start filming next year so Warner Bros. can make necessary tweaks before then. As for other project and potential standalone movies for members of Justice League, those may be put in doubt.
