IT has been grabbing attention ever since the first trailer dropped. Based on the already-acclaimed book by Stephen King, the teaser trailer of IT scored a record 197 million views in just 24 hours. Even before the full trailer launched, people were already scared of Pennywise.

Now, industry analysts are predicting that IT will score an opening weekend of $50-$55 million dollars. This will make the film surpass Hotel Transylvania 2, (which grossed $48 million) as the highest opening in September. Another jewel in its crown would be the fact that it would be one of the few R-rated movies ever to cross $50 million mark. The elite-list currently holds some great names like Hannibal and Paranormal Activity 3.

However, not everyone is sure about this. Some think that when an established franchise like Annabelle failed to cross $40 million, it would be unlikely for IT to reach 50.

However, box office is the last thing that should come to mind when we talk about IT. The movie has been hailed as THE horror movie of the year and has the potential to be one of the scariest movies ever. Even if the film fails to set records for opening weekend, people would surely flock to theatres eventually if the film is as good as it seems.

Andres Muschietti directs the movie. It stars Bill Skarsgard as Pennywise the Dancing Clown and Jaeden Lieberher as Bill Denbrough. Here is the synopsis of the film:

“When children begin to disappear in the town of Derry, Maine, neighborhood kids band together to square off against Pennywise, an evil clown whose history of murder and violence dates back for centuries.”
