Gremlins 3 Found Footage Pitch Is Amazing

For many years now, we have heard word of a reboot of the Gremlins franchise, but Warner Bros. cannot seem to crack the particular nut. Maybe just do not feel motivated to make the movie because filmmakers have pitched ideas for Gremlins 3. One such filmmaker is Max Landis (Chronicle), (American Ultra) who has a good idea for a found footage version of Gremlins.

The outspoken screenwriter appeared last year on Talkhouse podcast. Per Bloody Disgusting, Max Landis’ pitch went unnoticed, but it is worth a look for those who want to see Gremlins 3. He is pitching the idea to director Joe Dante. The basic premise is that a kid gets a pair of Mogwai for Christmas. One nice and the other not as nice. As is usually with Mogwai, things start out on a pleasant note.

“If you got a Gremlin for Christmas, you would be filming it all the time…For the first act of the movie t’s like a cute, animal YouTube thing.”

Max Landis has a pretty solid reason for making Gremlins 3 as a found footage movie. Which kid would not be filming every second of these creatures? What would a Gremlins movie be like without scary creatures running?

“The second act is, you know, eat after midnight, there’s way more of them, is like a disaster movie, except for very funny and wacky as the Gremlins begin to be everywhere…the town spins out of control.”

In his pitch, Max Landis clarified that there would be a reference to Gremlins and Gremlins 2 as the children would be researching creatures online and discover events from the two movies. So this will take place in the same universe as the two movies.

“In the third act of the movie, the Gremlins get the camera.”

Once the Gremlins get the camera things go crazy and the perspective changes.

Last we heard, Chris Columbus had written a dark script for the movie which he now hopes will be made, In the video, Max Landis says that when he pitched this idea, Warner Bros. said that they had no plans to reboot Gremlins.
