It has been high on Paramount Television’s wish list to create a TV series fashioned after the 1999 sci-fi movie, ‘ Galaxy Quest’ for over two years now. However, plans couldn’t materialize due to the death of Alan Rickman, the actor who was seen as Alexander Dane in the film.

Now that the comic artist Paul Scheer has taken over the writing responsibility from Robert Gordon, it seems that the plans are back on track, at least Hollywood Reporter says so.

Earlier Gordon was chosen to write the story, but, now he is going to be the executive producer along with Mark Johnson, the producer of ‘Galaxy Quest.’ There is no clarity whether the director of the film will also have a part to play in this project or for that matter, we still don’t know if any of the movie’s cast and crew will be working on the TV series.

The film was a take on the ‘Star Trek’ and other such space fiction classics, and it featured Tim Allen, Sigourney Weaver, Alan Rickman, Tony Shalhoub, Sam Rockwell and Daryl Mitchell.

The plot revolved around them being the cast of a TV show that had been taken off air years back, but, which was mistaken by help seeking aliens as a historical documentary. Their subsequent adventures make them unintentional galactic heroes.

The film had great success at the box-office and received a lot of critical acclaims as well. In fact, the film that has seen a cult following among Star Trek fans, went on to win a Hugo Award.
