Female-Led Greatest American Hero Reboot Pilot Ordered by ABC

As reported by Deadline, The hit 80s TV series; The Greatest American Hero has been given a put pilot commitment from ABC for a reboot. This half hourly, single angle comedy will have an Indian American lady Meera as the protagonist. This reboot is being done by writer/producer RachnaFruchbom (Fresh Off the Boat) and Nahnatchka Khan. The series will be co-produced by 20th Century Fox TV and ABC Studios.




The script is going to be written by Fruchbom who will produce it with Mandy Summers of Fierce Baby and also Tawnia McKiernan who happens to be the daughter of Steven J Cannell, producer of the original show.

Meera will be a 30-year-old Indian American lady from Cleveland, “whose talents include tequila drinking and karaoke and not much else. Then some aliens entrust her with a super suit to protect the planet, and the world has never been in more unreliable hands.”

The original ABC TV series was aired from 1980 to 1983. The story was about a teacher who reluctantly became a superhero after aliens gave him a super suit that had powers which he could not even properly understand or master after having lost the instruction manual. The Greatest American Herofeatured William Katt, Robert Culp, and Connie Sellecca.




The director of The Lego Movie and the former Han solo film had been associated with a 2014 reboot of The Greatest American Hero. The theme song of the original series can be heard below, and it had reached number 2 in the year 1981 on the Billboard 100.
