Music fans know it as the Devil’s Horns, however superhero nerds know it as what Spider-Man does to make his webs come out. Oddly enough, KISS bassist Gene Simmons desires to trademark the Devil’s Horns as something he designed back in the 70s. On the other hand, this is what Doctor Strange director Scott Derickson said about that on Twitter;

A great deal of contentions have turned out that previous Black Sabbath lead man Dio developed the Devil’s Horn image. However, Derickson is adamant that the Steve Ditko drawings of Dr. Odd and Spider-Man doing the gesture were out in the 60s. This is way before Dio was utilizing them in his shows in ’79.

What’s more, surprisingly, the gesture really has some supernatural sources. As it is, it was said to be an Old Italian gesture used to avert the evil eye. Somebody on the comment string even stated that the gesture was out in the 40s, utilized as “an invocation to the Horned God of the witches.”

By the looks of it, Simmons won’t presumably be able to trademark the Devil’s Horns. It seems similar to claiming the expression “get well soon” or “I love you.” Adventitiously, the gesture in American Sign Language does mean “I love you.” Wow!
