Finally, the new Hellboy has been unveiled. Quite some time back, reports had come about the Hellboy reboot to be directed by Neil Marshall (The Descent) and featuring David Harbour (Stranger Things) as Hellboy. After waiting for several months, now we have finally got the first picture of Harbour as Hellboy, and he looks nasty, rough and amazing.

This David Harbour image from the under production reboot was unveiled on the official Hellboy Facebook page. Just like the earlier Ron Perlman portrayal of Hellboy in the movies by Guillermo Del Toro, this one also looks quite similar to the comic books, but, has some variations. While Perlman also looked anything but gentle, the new version is absolutely mean and intimidating. We also noticed changes in his characteristic arm and hair which now look longer and slick. Overall, the look seems to have continuity with the past appearances of the Hellboy. However, we have seen only one photo so far, and once we see Harbour in motion, we will come to know a lot more.

A lot of people wanted Guillermo Del Toro to make Hellboy 3 and complete the trilogy. However, that couldn’t materialize. Now we are set to get a brand new version which would be darker, meaner and most probably R-Rated. It is also not going to be a story featuring Hellboy’s origin since the creator Mike Mignola is playing a major part in the production. The changes in the appearance of Hellboy indicate that though there is going to be the continuation of the original, it is just going to be a darker and tougher outlook.

Considering the fact this reboot of Hellboy was announced only some months ago, things have been taking place at a good pace. The film is likely to go into production shortly, and casting has been in the works for many weeks now. Milla Jovovich (Resident Evil) will portray the evil Blood Queen, Ian McShane (John Wick) will play the role of Professor Bloom, and American Honey actress Sasha Lane will come on board as Alice Monaghan. The most important casting decision was made when Deadpool actor Ed Skrein was approached to play Ben Daimio. However, outrage from fans caused him to exit the project, and now Daniel Dae Kim (Lost) has been roped in to ensure a more precise portrayal of the comic characters.

This film was earlier titled Hellboy: Rise of the Blood Queen, but, was later renamed to Hellboy which is the same title which Guillermo Del Toro’s original movie had. While no release date has been announced by Lionsgate, it is likely to release towards the end of 2018. Have a look at the first official picture featuring David Harbour as Hellboy, below:
