We all know Professor Charles Xavier to be the learned, compassionate, loving and highly respected founder and mentor of the most popular comic book superhero team X-Men. In fact, his character is such that you would be glad to see Patrick Stewart play it on the big screen. However, based on the things we found out after reading the original Silver Age run mention that the purpose behind creating the X-Men team wasn’t global improvement, rather, Professor Xavier did it because he is an absolute madman.

8. Random Metal Tentacles

Although this is not something as big as some of the other reasons on this list, but, it does highlight the darkness surrounding the character. Once he fell from the stairs while trying to walk without any support and then suddenly huge metallic tentacles emerged out of the wall and grabbed him. The question is why did he built such tentacles into the wall and whether the entire mansion has such things embedded all over the mansion. In case he put them there for his safety then how did he guess that he might someday fall from the stairs? We also wonder why he hasn’t shared such a technology with others?

7. His Team Doesn’t Have Any Resources Available

X-Men inhabit the same mansion and are members of the superhero vigilante team set up by the Professor and risk their lives regularly; they are not entitled to make use of his huge resources. He buys luxury cars, private jets, choppers and even giant metallic tentacles. On the other hand, the team didn’t even had money to spend on bus fare and had to work as construction hands to raise the money needed to buy air tickets and go to Europe to rescue Xavier himself.

6. He Staged His Death and Put The Teenagers Under His Care Fight For Themselves

Xavier once died battling a one-shot villain called ‘Grotesk.’ It seemed extremely unfortunate until we found out that Professor X didn’t even die and he had put someone else into his shoes so that he secretly prepared to thwart an alien attack. He made X-Men believe that he was dead and fend for themselves against enemies like Magneto, Juggernaut, The Avengers, The Sentinels, etc. and they also had to earn their bread at the same time. After all, you are caring and loving, but, you just don’t want to let your team know that you are perfectly alright. The unanswered question is, how did he convince the world that he was dead?

5. He Made Another Person Die As His Cover

There was a super being who could change his physical appearance, and this guy was called Changeling AKA Kevin Sydney. He fought the X-Men as a representative of the evil gang ‘Factor 3’. He realized his mistakes and met Professor X who made him take his place as Xavier slid away to prepare for combat with the aliens. Eventually, Kevin got killed in the battle against Grotesk. Even if we agree that Sydney was suffering from some deadly disease, the truth is that Xavier let him die in his place and we don’t even know if he informed Kevin Sydney’s family about his death.

4. He Wiped Out Someone’s Memories without Any Reason

The X-Men had a tough going against The Vanisher. He was capable of instant teleportation, and the original five X-Men couldn’t control him, and then Professor X intervened only to delete his memories and his mutant powers. This was quite a savage thing to do as he erased the entire identity of the person and that too in only the second issue of the comics.

3. The Danger Room Is a Murder Chamber

Modern X-Men comics show The Danger Room to be a holographic training center. This enables them to project any scenario and train for it without risking in any manner. However, in the past, it used to have burning towers, crushers, endless pits, heat seeking missiles and many other types of deadly weapons. ‘Danger Room’ wasn’t just a moniker, but, it was a place where anybody who erred during a training session would die in.

2. He Is In Love With A Teenager

The formative years of X-Men saw Scott Summers and Jean Grey developing romantic feelings for each other. They are one of the longest-running couples in the comics universe, and we know how it ended (Scott went on to make out with an enemy perched atop Jean’s grave). Initially, they took time coming together as Scott was in the guilt of his devastating power and Jean was in a dilemma due to his behavior. Warren also tried to create a feud between the team members.

The thing to note here is that Xavier also had romantic feelings about Jean whom he had nurtured right from the childhood. Isn’t that crazy?

1.He Has His Brother Chained Up in His Basement

In case you don’t know the truth, Juggernaut is the half-brother of Xavier. They could never get along and had long years of confrontations that resulted in both hiding in a cave during the Korean War. This cave contained a magic crystal which made Juggernaut powerful. Then the maniacal guy attacked the mansion and X-Men took him down. The battle left him comatose and arrested. Xavier took over the charge to take care of his half-brother. ‘Care’ in this case was propping the guy into a chair with shackles binding him and confining him to permanent secrecy. The one thing that you can’t figure out is how he managed to get him down there in the first place.
