Cartoons have lots to offer, from lessons to team building paradigms and plenty of cute characters. They allow us to follow adventures of our favorite heroes who always manage to save the day. Good always triumphed because evil represented selfishness and vanity.

But coming to villains, who did not get weirded out when Mumm-Ra, a rotting corpse, shape shifted in strength and size, or become a different person to deceive the ThunderCats? Who was not obsessed with finding out what Dr. Claw looked like, but also afraid to see his face? Here is a list of the 9 scariest villains in classic cartoons:

1. KRANG

Some may argue that Shredder was scary in Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, but he was not all that terrifying. A talking brain in the stomach of a human exo suit is scary.

He was banished to Earth and helped Shredder out. Krang came with a sweet house, a mobile battle fortress which was armored and weaponized. His goal was to rule the dimensions, including Earth.

2. VENOM

The ‘90s animated Spider-Man series had introduced the “Venom Saga”, and featured the most famous villains in comics. Venom was bigger than Spidey, had a black suit, and a large jaw with jagged teeth and a Gene Simmons tongue.

3. SKELETOR

In Eternia or on Earth, Skeletor was the scariest things on television for children. He was huge, lusted for nothing, but more power and his face was a skull.

The species that Skeletor belonged to was Gar, a blue-skinned humanoids who were villains. He was known as Keldor, a handsome blue-faced devil, until the face was melted off.

4. DR. ZIN

Dr.Zin was a power-hungry scientist who then became foreboding as The Real Adventures of Jonny Quest went on.

The creepiest was while living in a volcanic mountain in Peru, he tried to clone himself as he was dying of a disease. The clones were deformed, but he thought injecting gold into them may stabilize the metabolic process. Dr.Zin was truly a mad scientist, and terrifying as there was no scheme more extreme to try against the Quests.

5. MUMM-RA

With his red eyes, gravely voice, and mummified appendages, Mumm Ra on Thundercats was a creepy rotting dead guy. He was evil sorcerer and servant of the Ancient Spirits of Evil.Bound to carry their wicked whims, he resides in Black Pyramid, hellbent on obtaining the Eye of Thundera.

He was a magic user that was omniscient, and was in no way incompetent, despite being in servitude to mystical forces.

6. MON*STAR

Once a criminal on Penal Planet 10, he then became a criminal kingpin of Limbo Mob after his escape to Limbo.

He gets his power from Moon Star, which has a transformation, and he is covered in robotic armor. He has jets to fly through space, and he can shoot blasts of red energy. He has a scary eyepatch that shoots beams and can hypnotize or crush enemies.

7. KING ZARKON

The ruler of the Galra Empire and nemesis to Voltron was cruel King Zarkon. He believes that weakness is an infection and if half his armies were slaughtered, the other half would be stronger due to this.

8. MEGATRON

The General of the Decepticons, voiced by Frank Welker, Megatron was an effective and intimidating villain. He was focused and ruthless. More cunning than anyone, he would stop at nothing to achieve his goal.

He went to Earth to acquire Energon and use it on Cybertron to return it to its Golden Age. In his enhanced form, he was cruel and willing to destroy other Decepticons to get what he wanted.
